Do Story Views Affect Snapchat Planets? Snapchat’s official help information says Friend Solar System is connected to your Best Friends list, but it does not publish a formula showing that Story Views directly determine your planet position.
That distinction matters. Watching a friend’s Story is an interaction on Snapchat, but you should not treat every Story View as a confirmed planet-ranking point. Snapchat describes Best Friends as the people you Snap and Chat with the most, while Friend Solar System shows your position in that friend’s Best Friends list.
Do Story Views Affect Snapchat Planets?
There is no official evidence that Story Views alone directly control Snapchat Planets. Snapchat does not provide a public scoring system that assigns a fixed number of planet points to watching, rewatching, replying to, or reacting to a Story.
Your Friend Solar System position reflects your place in another person’s Best Friends list. Snapchat says Best Friends are the people you Snap and Chat with the most, and the list can change regularly as your communication habits change.
How Friend Solar System Works
Friend Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature. When it is available and enabled, you can tap the Best Friends badge on a Friendship Profile to see which planet represents your position in that friend’s Best Friends list.
The planets represent positions rather than separate scores. Mercury is first, Venus is second, Earth is third, and the sequence continues through Neptune at eighth place.
- Mercury: #1 Best Friend
- Venus: #2 Best Friend
- Earth: #3 Best Friend
- Mars: #4 Best Friend
- Jupiter: #5 Best Friend
- Saturn: #6 Best Friend
- Uranus: #7 Best Friend
- Neptune: #8 Best Friend
What Snapchat Officially Says About Best Friends
Snapchat says your Best Friends are the people you Snap and Chat with the most. You can have up to eight Best Friends, and Snapchat says this list is updated regularly.
This is more useful than trying to calculate a hidden “planet score.” Snapchat does not publish a precise weighting system that tells users how much one action is worth compared with another.
Does watching a Story count as a planet point?
Snapchat does not document a fixed point value for a Story View. A Story View can show that you interacted with someone’s content, but there is no official rule saying that one view moves you a specific number of places in their Best Friends list.
Does watching a Story repeatedly guarantee a higher planet?
No. There is no official Snapchat rule saying that repeated Story Views multiply your Best Friends position or guarantee a move toward Mercury. Rewatch behavior should not be treated as a reliable ranking shortcut.
Story Views vs. Direct Snaps and Chats
It helps to separate Story activity from direct communication. Snapchat specifically describes Best Friends around Snaps and Chats. That means direct one-to-one communication is clearly relevant to the Best Friends concept, while Snapchat does not publish an equivalent ranking formula for Story Views.
- Direct Snaps: Snapchat identifies Snaps as part of how Best Friends are determined.
- Chats: Snapchat also identifies Chats as part of Best Friends activity.
- Story Views: Snapchat does not publish a fixed planet-ranking value for viewing Stories.
- Story Replies: A reply creates direct communication, but Snapchat does not publish a separate planet score for it.
Can Story Replies Matter More Than a Simple View?
A Story Reply is different from simply viewing a Story because it also creates a direct interaction. However, Snapchat does not publish a formula that lets you calculate exactly how much a Story Reply changes your Best Friends position.
So a useful way to think about it is this: a Story View is an observation of content, while a reply can also become part of your direct conversation. Neither action comes with an officially published planet-point value.
What About Story Rewatches?
Snapchat+ can provide information about Story Rewatch activity for eligible Stories, but that does not mean a rewatch is a documented multiplier for Friend Solar System rankings.
If you repeatedly watch the same Story, you should not expect Snapchat to move you from Neptune to Mercury simply because you watched it several times. There is no official published rule supporting that conclusion.
Why Can Your Planet Change Even When You Watch Their Stories?
Your planet can change because your position is tied to the Best Friends list, and that list can change as Snapchat activity between people changes. Someone else may become a more frequent Snap or Chat contact, for example.
This does not mean Snapchat has necessarily “penalized” you for missing a Story or rewarded another person for watching more Stories. The exact ranking calculation is not publicly documented.
What Actually Helps You Stay in Someone’s Best Friends List?
If your goal is to understand the Best Friends system, focus on the behavior Snapchat actually describes instead of chasing supposed point values. Regular, genuine Snaps and Chats are directly relevant to the Best Friends definition.
- Keep conversations natural and consistent when you genuinely want to talk.
- Send direct Snaps when appropriate rather than relying only on Story Views.
- Remember that Best Friends are based on each person’s own Snapchat activity.
- Do not assume a specific number of Snaps guarantees a particular planet.
- Expect rankings to change as communication patterns change.
Can You Force Yourself to Become Someone’s Mercury?
No official Snapchat setting lets you manually choose your planet position. Friend Solar System reflects your position in the other person’s Best Friends list rather than giving you a button to select Mercury, Venus, or another planet.
Snapchat+ does offer a Best Friend pinning feature, but that is separate from proving that Story Views determine a Friend Solar System position. Do not confuse the two features.
Comparison: What Is Officially Known?
| Activity | What Snapchat documents | Fixed planet points? |
|---|---|---|
| Direct Snaps | Part of the Best Friends concept | No published value |
| Chats | Part of the Best Friends concept | No published value |
| Story Views | Story engagement | No published value |
| Story Replies | Creates direct interaction | No published value |
| Story Rewatches | Rewatch activity can be shown for eligible Stories | No published multiplier |
Why Your Story Views Should Not Be Treated as a Ranking Formula
Online guides sometimes present tables claiming that a Story View is worth a certain number of points, a reply is worth another number, or a rewatch provides a multiplier. Snapchat does not publish those numbers as an official Friend Solar System formula.
That is why exact formulas such as “watch 10 Stories to reach Venus” or “rewatch 20 times to reach Mercury” should be treated as speculation, not Snapchat instructions.
Does a Snapstreak Guarantee a Higher Planet?
No. A Snapstreak shows a continuing exchange of Snaps, but Snapchat does not state that maintaining a streak guarantees a particular Friend Solar System planet.
You can use a streak as part of your normal communication, but it should not be treated as a guaranteed route to Mercury or any other specific position.
Does Snapchat+ Change How Story Views Affect Planets?
Snapchat+ gives subscribers access to Friend Solar System and other additional features. Having Snapchat+ does not mean Snapchat publishes a separate Story-View scoring formula for planets.
If you can see a planet in a Friendship Profile, that tells you your position in that friend’s Best Friends list. It does not reveal a numerical score or a detailed breakdown of which actions created that position.

Final Answer
Story Views are not documented by Snapchat as a fixed planet-ranking factor. Watching someone’s Story is an interaction, but Snapchat does not publish a point value, weighting formula, or rewatch multiplier that lets you calculate a Friend Solar System position from Story activity.
For Friend Solar System, the reliable explanation is that your planet represents your position in the other person’s Best Friends list. Snapchat says Best Friends are the people you Snap and Chat with the most, and that list can change over time.
